thinking

I go to a woman's bible study and we are studying The Lords Prayer. I come away from each lesson with new truths and challenges. I won't get into the meat of our lesson on 'Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread', because I wouldn't do it justice. But there was a question that was thrown out that I found interesting...

If you were to wake up tomorrow with only the things that you thanked God for the day before, then what would you have?

I wonder how many of us would wake up hungry, naked, cold, lonely, unemployed, unforgiven, and on and on and on.

v day with a side of rock chalk

So today is the big ole Valentine’s Day. The day that so many dread and others anticipate. The day for me is a little bitter topped with some sweetness. Our home is overflowing with love today also because the Jayhawks take on the Wildcats tonight. Lawrence and I have been practicing our Rock Chalk chant. Even while wearing his a.m. outfit:

Which did score some major points since Corey came home for lunch today.

I made pancakes for lunch and made them heart shaped! Awwwww.

I was struck more by the pile of pancake remains that seemed unworthy and inedible. It reminded me of how my heart had felt for many years – disappointed and crumbled. The originally perfectly round and browned pancake – now facing an unfair ending to its day.

To my single sisters – those days are engrained deep in my heart and I will never forget them. And therefore, I will never take for granted my husband who loves and adores me. He arrived with a jumbo container of spackling; the heavy duty kind that can help patch a heart. And although there are some days that I still feel a little crummy and disappointed. Possibly a little more round than perfect. Or even unworthy of another’s love and patience. I will be forever grateful of the love that is so abundant in my life.

Even if it does come from a Wildcat.

And this was our afternoon outfit. I've always preferred afternoons to mornings.

moving forward (while cold)

I thought I had Spring fever last week when it was 70 degrees in Wichita. But I really have Spring fever today at -2 degrees. I feel like I am trapped in an underground cave. It doesn’t help that we got our electric bill yesterday and YOWZERS was it high. So today all of the blinds and curtains are drawn, the house is dark, and I am wearing my ski clothes. I was going to do some baking but I’m scared to turn on the oven. Okay, it isn’t that bad. But seriously – I am getting pretty envious of all of these snow/ice/cold days. I think I got 3 days off in my entire high school career.

Moving on, our baby is now moving forward!!! We don’t really know what to call it. It’s sort of a ‘lunging army scoot’. We had to entice him with the remote control because his toys just weren’t worth the effort. But he can easily get to everything in his room that he isn’t supposed to touch! Let the training begin!

a night out

My hubby and I went on a much needed date night on Saturday. For Christmas I got him tickets to a Wichita Thunder Hockey game. I pictured a fun evening out and didn’t even think about all that this night would actually entail. Now that we have the little man, then it also meant we needed a babysitter. We have only had family and friends watch him so far, and never a “real” babysitter under the age of thirty. Oh boy. First step, we found a willing and trustworthy participant. Then I thought through all the information I needed to pass on for any combination of ‘what if’ scenarios. Including how to put him down for bed. I had second thoughts at this point. And then the question of what you actually pay someone to care for your most valuable and dependant possession. If I pay her more then will she understand the trust I am putting in her and how important this little man is to me? Probably not. Finally, the task of getting out the door. I had to get myself date worthy (which doesn't happen often) and the little man sitter ready. A few extra nerves were involved since he chose to only nap for 30 minutes that day and then not eat dinner. He must have known that this was going to be a big night.

It’s a wonder I was able to enjoy myself at all! But we had a good time!!! It helped getting a text to reassure me that he was fast asleep without any troubles. Darn, he didn’t need me there. I mean - Whew, I’m glad he’s sleeping soundly.

It helps that we have the "perfect" baby that is "super easy". Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
We have the baby that is perfectly happy as long as anyone is within 2 feet of him. Big difference.

Corey and I were tempted to get a hotel room and take a nap. Get your mind out of the gutter. I seriously would have paid for some sleep that evening. Proof that we really were at Intrust Arena:

We're going to have to do this more often!
What's a post without an updated picture of the one that you really want to see?!

stitch by stitch

I got a very exciting Christmas gift this year! No, it wasn’t a massage, a new mommy wardrobe, or a day off. I now own a sewing machine!!! 85% of my readers likely think this is dull and a little homely. However, I am stoked. I love making creative craft projects or decorations for my home or toys for the little man - and I am so limited since Elmer’s glue and staples don’t make for a very clean finish. But not anymore, I am a seamstress! Let me back up a little – I learned how to thread a sewing machine and load a bobbin this week! Only after I have stared at my machine (still in the plastic) for several weeks. I haven’t made a stitch since high school home ec class and I have to admit I’m rather intimidated. But since the baby took a good nap - I decided to go forth and tackle my fear.

I experimented with some of the 60 different stitch designs. I rounded a few corners. I went fast and slow. There is so much more that this machine can do that I haven't discovered yet. Now I have the projects lined up and have almost worked up the courage to begin. One thing is for certain, my machine likely won't be "paying for itself" anytime soon.

a little snow day

We finally got our first snow!!! This is coming from a girl who used to HATE the snow. Then I moved to Colorado and pretty much figured out I better learn to appreciate it because it wasn’t going anywhere. After that we got along great. Then came the love of skiing and snowshoeing; and a 4WD Jeep helped a lot. I must say I’ve been getting a little antsy with January ticking by and no trace of snow. Until this morning when we woke up with 4 inches on the ground! There’s not much to do in 4 inches of snow. I guess I could have snow shoed in my back yard. I would have had to add some high knees and lunges to really call it anything more than a step outside. Nonetheless, Lawrence and I went out and played in it after his morning nap. Not only was it the first snow of the winter, but his first snow ever. I was wishing I had a sled. Instead we made snow angels and took pictures. Copper tried to teach Lawrence how to dig his nose into the snow while on the run. Maybe he’ll catch on next year.

And as a side note, I really had to laugh that some of the schools were out. In Colorado this would have been a “really, you couldn’t make it to work on time due to the weather” sort of morning.
