v day with a side of rock chalk

So today is the big ole Valentine’s Day. The day that so many dread and others anticipate. The day for me is a little bitter topped with some sweetness. Our home is overflowing with love today also because the Jayhawks take on the Wildcats tonight. Lawrence and I have been practicing our Rock Chalk chant. Even while wearing his a.m. outfit:

Which did score some major points since Corey came home for lunch today.

I made pancakes for lunch and made them heart shaped! Awwwww.

I was struck more by the pile of pancake remains that seemed unworthy and inedible. It reminded me of how my heart had felt for many years – disappointed and crumbled. The originally perfectly round and browned pancake – now facing an unfair ending to its day.

To my single sisters – those days are engrained deep in my heart and I will never forget them. And therefore, I will never take for granted my husband who loves and adores me. He arrived with a jumbo container of spackling; the heavy duty kind that can help patch a heart. And although there are some days that I still feel a little crummy and disappointed. Possibly a little more round than perfect. Or even unworthy of another’s love and patience. I will be forever grateful of the love that is so abundant in my life.

Even if it does come from a Wildcat.

And this was our afternoon outfit. I've always preferred afternoons to mornings.

  1. Wow, Abby, you have a way with words. This blog left me a little teary eyed. Thanks for your encouragement. Someday a man will come in with some spackle to fix my heart all up, and I hope I can be as lucky as you and Corey :) Love you!!!

  2. I echo Shi's teary eyed comment. That was a very sweet and honest way of looking at your life. Thanks for sharing that! I already feel hope on the horizon!
